Editorial perspective and policy
AS PERCEIVED is an online news magazine with a highly-critical outlook, especially towards those in public life whose actions and statements challenge credulity.
Life, politics, business and art exist only as we perceive them; the writings here are primarily responses to what is apparently happening - and how others' actions are portrayed and thus perceived.
Many among the world's population do not have easy direct access to the primary sources (of news), such as political and business decision-makers and policy-makers. The internet has changed, and is still changing, this.
Most of us therefore get information that has been processed and re-presented at least once - by web media, radio, television, magazines and newspapers, and less immediately by books, cinema, theatre and other communications media.
Thus the 'perceptions' recorded here are predominantly those provoked by both medium and message.
AS PERCEIVED believes firmly in consistency of argument, the avoidance of hypocrisy and honesty; politicians would be far stronger and earn greater respect if, having tried policies, they admitted failures and disappointments and justified changes. 'U-turns' are considered indications of political strength and maturity.
AS PERCEIVED recognizes 'a woman's right to choose'; no one born with male genitalia can ever fully understand the trauma that some women may experience after conception.
AS PERCEIVED is proud to be liberal.
AS PERCEIVED strives not to be afraid of difference.
AS PERCEIVED finds it hard to tolerate theocracy or theocrats.
AS PERCEIVED believes that everyone has roles and responsibilities in governance, national and corporate; either as owners of corporations, directly or indirectly through nominee or institutional stockholders) or as consumers.
AS PERCEIVED believes that the 'haves' have responsibilities towards the 'have-nots' - that economically active and productive groups within the population cannot do anything other than support, collectively and individually, the dependent - be they the old and retired (where such a luxury may be enjoyed), the young or the ill.
AS PERCEIVED does not believe in evil per se; 'malice' is considered a learned response to abuse by others. As Perceived strives to believe in universal goodness, even where individuals feel motivated to commit what others consider atrocities.
If you believe that God is omnipotent and onmiscient, then you will also accept that no humans should have the arrogance or gall to consider themselves able to interpret that being's thoughts or desires. This is a 'theosophy-free zone'.
